Issue with Ableton Automation and VST plugin
#1
Hi all,

First off, the app is great and is just what I was looking for without going down the route of purchasing a DMXIS unit with its own plugin.

I'm using Ableton to control my lighting cues via automation with the VST plugin. If you're familiar with Ableton, you'll know it will obey automation lines unless it receives manual override from the application or hardware that the automation is connected to and it will then consider it to be controlled manually and will cancel the automation. That's completely normal operation.

However, I'm having an issue where it seems as though the EMU software itself is receiving the automated values from the VST plugin but is also sending the information back to the VST plugin in Ableton instead of just listening to the commands.
This seems to be tricking Ableton in to thinking there has been a manual override from within the software when in fact the user hasn't touched the software at all and it stops the Ableton automation, which means the EMU software can no longer receive the input from those lanes either.

This will be different every time - Sometimes it will stop all of the automation lines, sometimes it will only stop some of them while others will continue.
It never stops in the same place either. It seems to always be at random slider values

This is just my take on what the issue might be. It could be something completely different but it seems the most logical one to me.

Mac OS X Catalina 10.15.3

Hi Matt,

Thank you for getting in touch regarding this.

Would you be able to provide a video of this happening so that I can try to replicate? If you are able to send your EMU and Ableton showfile, I can also try to replicate it.

What version of EMU are you running?

Within Ableton does the 'Re-enable Automation' button light up? I have found an article on the Ableton website which might help resolve this issue:
https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articl...ighting-up

Kind regards

Sam

Hey Sam,

I've added a video and my Ableton project file in the Google Drive link with my EMU logs at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1...sp=sharing
The project should open directly to the arrangement view with the automation open.
I downloaded the program from the website a few days ago so I can only assume it's the latest version. App is showing me 20.12.22.1 in the About section.

Sorry, I should've added: I have tried that exact article as well actually. Didn't do anything unfortunately.

Hi Matt,

Thank you for providing all this information so far.

I have passed this to the development team who will need to investigate this further. As soon as I hear back from them I will be able to provide you with an update.

Kind regards

Sam

Hey guys,

The latest beta with this bug resolved can be downloaded here:

MacOS: https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/entte...2.20.2.dmg
Win:      https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/entte...2.20.2.msi

This update features a number of other optimisations along with the way internal timing is handled which should make the software run much faster in general. The we're keen to know how you get on.

Cheers!

The new update is AMAZING!! The issue this thread is dedicated to is gone (for me), and Emu is so much Faster!! The Devs did a great job on this update, and the whole project in general. I look forward to using it!

I'll be sure to pass it forward!
